Privacy Policy

HeyCaption processes your video and audio files entirely on your Mac. We do not upload, store, view or have access to your footage, transcripts or exported captions. They stay on your device, under your control.

We collect as little as possible to run the product:

• Support conversations. If you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can reply and help you.
• Crash reports and diagnostics. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized crash reports. They never include your videos.
• Language model downloads. When the app downloads a speech model, our servers receive standard request information such as your IP address and the time of the request. We use it only to deliver the download and protect our service.

We use DataFast to understand how visitors find and use this website, for example which pages are read and which links bring people here. DataFast records details such as your IP address, browser, device, country and the page you came from, and sets a first-party cookie to recognise returning visitors. It processes this data on our behalf only: it isn't used for advertising and isn't sold.

This website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability. The HeyCaption app itself does not include website analytics, and your videos are never part of any of this.

Licenses are sold through Dodo Payments, our Merchant of Record, which processes payments under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, email address, country and order details so we can deliver your license key and help with support or refunds, never your full card details.

When you activate a license key, the app sends the key and an anonymous device identifier to our licensing service to check it's valid and keep it to one Mac at a time.

• To answer your support requests.
• To fix bugs and improve the app's stability.
• To deliver language model downloads and keep our servers secure.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We don't sell personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us run HeyCaption (for example payments, email and hosting), under agreements that protect it, or when the law requires us to.

We keep support emails for as long as needed to help you and for our records, and server logs only for a limited period. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to how we use it. To make a request, email support@heycaption.com.

HeyCaption is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll give notice on this website before they take effect.
